As expected, today the NHL announced that the Winter Classic scheduled in Minnesota will be postponed. In addition, the All-Star Game that was set to take place in Florida has also been postponed.
The Winter Classic was scheduled for January 1, 2021 at Target Field in Minneapolis between the Minnesota Wild and the St. Louis Blues. Though it won’t happen in 2021, the NHL has committed to make this work in 2022. With the All-Star Game being cancelled, this will also eliminate the “bye” week each team would have gotten prior to or after the All-Star break. As such, this will allow the NHL to have as many games possible including a full 16-team playoff – this time without cutting deep into the summer.
