Bob McKenzie has announced that a tentative agreement has been reached between the NHL and the Players’ Association.
Per TSN Insider, Bob McKenzie, tentative dates have been set.
In addition to these dates, phase 2 of the NHL Draft Lottery will take place following the best-of-five play-in/qualifying series. Based on the above tentative dates, this would likely be somewhere between August 10-12.
With an August 1st potential start date – a 2020 Stanley Cup Champion could be crowned in early October with the Draft happening shortly after.
From the NHL standpoint – the board of governors can make a decision via conference call to get the ball rolling once a tentative agreement is reached with the NHLPA. However, with the NHLPA being a union, the executive committee could potentially have a weekend call, and if approved, a vote could commence as early as Monday. The voting process itself could take a few days to complete, though a simple majority is required. Once an agreement can be ratified by the two parties – it’s game on!
