AEE is here to report, for the second straight week a major powerhouse goes down. The Fighting Illini have defeated the Wisconsin Badgers in a HUGE upset Saturday afternoon in Champaign. The Badgers were in first place in the Big Ten coming into the game and ranked 6th overall in the Nation.
Wisconsin made the first strike, by scoring the first touchdown of the game. Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan finds wide receiver, Jake Ferguson for an 18-yard touchdown pass on 3rd and long. Wisconsin would extend their lead to 10-0 with a 24-yard field goal with 12:02 left in the second quarter. The Illini would fight back, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter. The Illini would go into the half with a 13-10 lead.
The Badgers would take the lead in the third quarter after Jonathan Taylor ran 5 yards for the score. Colin Larch’s extra point is good. The Badgers. now lead the Illini 20-7, important to mention, with five minutes left in the third quarter. Taylor finished the game with 20 carries, 98 yards, and one touchdown.
The Illini would bounce back again scoring a late TD on a 29-yard TD pass. This would take the score to 23-21 Wisconsin. Then the magic happened and the hero of the game, Illini kicker James McCourt would drive in a 39-yard field goal for the walk off win.
The final score was 24-23, Illinois in surprising fashion beats Number 6 Wisconsin. Wisconsin had not trailed this season prior to the game-winning FG.
