NXT Review and Recap

Wednesday was another great night of action on NXT. The show started with an awesome match between Io Shirai and Candice LeRae. This has been an ongoing heated rivalry. These two do not like each other, Shirai has made it personal with LeRae. We have been hearing about Poppy being in NXT. To be honest, I did not have a clue who she was. Poppy played an awesome live performance for Shirai as she came out for her match. The Genius of the Sky, Shirai with brutal offense to LeRae. After a physical back and forth exchange, LeRae attempted a moonsault on Io but she hits lands on a chair instead. This leads to a Shirai victory. Afterward, Shirai tried to brutalize LeRae more but Rhea Ripley was not having it. She made the save and kicked the steel chair out of Shirai’s hands. The heel Shirai would runoff.

The new heel Finn Balor makes his way to the ring. He cuts his best promo in WWE to date as he promised that he will put Johnny Gargano in the hospital when he returns.

Shane Thorne and Bronson Reed wrestled next. This match was physical. Both have men have great potential. Reed wins it.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Kabuki Warriors would take on Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox. You have to love the story of overcoming injuries by Kai and Nox. Like any good match, Asuka and Kairi Sane went after their target and stayed aggressive. They beat down Kai all match. Asuka would eventually spit Green Mist in Kai’s face. Sane with the flying elbow for the win. After the match, all the fun stuff would happen. Baszler, Shafir, and Duke came out to attack Kai but Ripley comes out for the save only to get ambushed by Shirai and Belair. LeRae would make the save for the faces. William Regal broke up this fighting. As he announced they would all fight at WarGames. This is incredibly exciting and looks to set up a 5 on 5 women’s WarGames match.

Cameron Grimes and Tyler Bate would do battle next in another physical battle. Bate was nothing but impressive. Grimes was in trouble with Bate’s offense. Bate was ready to put this one away until Killian Dain appears. Thanks to Dain Grimes picks up the win. After the match, Dane would hit running senton on Bate then a second into the steel steps. Dain says Bate can give this message to Pete Dunne.

Undisputed Era’s Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish took on Keith Lee and Matt Riddle. Keith Lee proves every week that he is a beast. The Original Bro proves why he is for real. He comes out swinging when he gets the hot tag. Adam Cole and Roderick Strong would come out to help Fish and O’Reilly to hit the High- Low on Riddle to pick up the win. Undisputed Era lay into Riddle and Lee after the match until Tommaso Ciampa makes the save. Ciampa, Riddle, and Lee clear the ring. The former champ than picked up a mic and said Goldie, would have to wait, as he had to go to war first.

This was another very solid episode on NXT. It set the table for many potential feuds.

Matches we should get at WarGames:

  • War Games Match: Team Baszler: Shayna, Shafir, Duke, iO, & Belair vs Team Ripley: Ripley, LeRae, Nox, Kai, & (assuming Mia Yim)
  • War Games Match: Ciampa, Riddle, Lee, & (what will be Dijakovic or Dream) vs Undisputed Era inside of WarGames
  • Balor vs Gargano

AEW Dynamite Review & Recap

We kicked off the show as Tony Schiavone announces the big contract signing for Cody Rhodes and La Champion Chris Jericho for that AEW Championship at the Full Gear PPV. Cody says getting a shot at the title means something.

The first match saw Sammy Guevara vs Adam Hangman Page. This was a good match, Guevara had to use quickness against the bigger bruising Page. Page with a knockout clothesline that wins the match. Afterward, Hangman sends a message to PAC.

I was enjoying my fandom when the Rock N’ Roll Express was introduced. What a legacy in the business that Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson have had. The two Hall of Famers have left their impact on the wrestling industry, especially tag-team wrestling. As they were being interviewed Ortiz and Santana attack them and beat them down, even putting Morton through the stage. Ortiz and Santana are great heels, they just added to their heat from the fans.

Hiraku Shida vs Shanna were showcased as Shida got the win in a really fun match. We see the darker side of Brandi Rhodes with an alliance with Awesome Kong. Not bad was weird but edgier.

Schiavone and Cody are hyping up this big contract signing for the big match. Schiavone was referencing Dusty Rhodes and Cody said his mother will be there to watch him wrestle, adding realism and emotional investment.

Next, we saw Orange Cassidy with the Best Friends vs John Silver, Alex Reynolds, and QT Marshall. After two good matches to start and great segments. We get this match, now listen The Best Friends are talented but Orange Cassidy I’m not buying and quite frankly he’s a disgrace to wrestling. He is popular with a lot of fans and he does do a few moves at least but I was happy to see the end of this one. Cassidy and the Best Friends get the win. Since Halloween was getting close Cassidy and the Best Friends were in costumes.

Jericho is just so cool, he is so much better as a heel. The champion of AEW, his attire is even reinvented just like his character. He is so good on the mic and one of the best ever. Cody and Tony make their grand entrance into the building where Jericho and Cody make it official. Jericho and his Inner Circle have set up Cody. Sammy Guevara appears on the big screen. Jake Hager beats down the Natural Dustin Rhodes in the parking lot and Hager slams the limo door on Dustin’s Hand. Then Cody and MJF go to tend to Dustin. I miss these kinds of backstage segments. That’s missing at times, it was done so well. Jericho smokes a cigar as the Inner Circle drive away.

Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks vs Hybrid 2 (Jack Evans and Angelico) and Kip Sabian was next. Another 6 man tag match but this one was slightly better than the other one. I’m over this Bucks and Omega deal. Don’t get me wrong, lots of talent in that ring but they all need fresher gimmicks. They have worn their welcome with me. Kip Sabian needs to be pushed. The Elite gets the win.

In another horrible gimmick, the Librarian Peter Avalon comes out, with Levi Bates. Thank God for John Moxley. He hit Avalon with a DDT to end the misery of that character. Moxley is being held back by AEW, they treat him as an outsider. Moxley is a rebel and out of control. Please let him loose and unhinge him. This is the real attitude and character we need. He promises violence for Omega, “Their boy.” Great line!

SCU which consists of Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky vs the Lucha Bros for the tag team titles. These two teams are both unreal, this match would decide which team, would be the first-ever AEW Tag-Team Champions. I tell you this Sky is one of the best all-around athletes anywhere and Kazarian still proves why he is one of the best every match. Pentagon Jr. is aggressive and his kicks are violent. Ray Fenix is nothing short of amazing, his high-risk ability is amazing. The chemistry these two teams have is amazing. What a main event. SCU wins and are you new AEW Tag-Team Champions.

Overall both shows were fantastic. They both put on excellent matches while showing off a bevy of talent.

In grading the shows I decided to do it in 30-minute intervals.

Hour One-NXT wins the first hour. Shirai and LeRae tore the house down. iO’s live music entrance and then the physical match to follow was great. Finn Balor cut his best promo in the WWE and the women of NXT brawled all over the ring setting up War Games after the Women’s tag title match. On the AEW side, Hangman and Guevara had a stellar match and the LAX segment was good but the rest of the hour didn’t hang with NXT.

Hour Two-Tyler Bate and Cameron Grimes had a good match but the AEW contract signing was too much to contend with for the first segment of the hour. The Elite put on a good match and the tag title finals were fantastic. SCU and the Lucha Bros stole the show. NXT had a good main event but not great. Seeing Ciampa take on UE is nice but the second hour goes to AEW.

This was a tough call, the hardest to make yet, but there has to be a winner and this week the winner was US! THE FANS! THE AUDIENCE!

Both shows put on B+ efforts and we as fans were truly the only winners.

Check back in with us next week for AEW & NXT results and grades.
