It’s that time again, Saturday College Football is upon us. Here at AEE, we chose to preview a Big Ten Matchup. This top 20 matchup features No. 16 Michigan taking on No. 7 Penn State. Happy Valley, Pennsylvania is the venue for the game with these two storied Universities. This is a game that you need to watch this weekend as the Nittany Lions host the Wolverines.
Considering the tension between these Big Ten Rivals, it’s bound to be an exciting Atmosphere. If you have followed the Wolverines, they need a win badly. This game is even more significant if Michigan wants a shot at that Big Ten East Division Title. To say this is a must-win situation is an understatement. With a loss in their league to Wisconsin, Jim Harbaugh’s team still has to play the Buckeyes of Ohio State. If Michigan loses this game, their title hopes are most likely lost. They would just fall too far behind in the division to be able to catch up with the other teams.
Now, let’s talk about those Nittany Lions. They, on the other hand, are climbing up the rankings after a nice 6-0 start to the season. If they win Saturday Night, Coach James Franklin’s team would be a contender to Ohio State in the East. Penn State’s program always has those playoff aspirations, and this year is no different.
When they started the season Michigan had CFB Playoff hopes but an overtime win against a very determined Army team in week 2 caused some concern. Then the Wisconsin Badgers handed Michigan an absolute beatdown. You could say Michigan’s playoff hopes faded but you know what has happened after? After losing to Wisconsin, Big Blue has won three straight games. However, Michigan still has Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan State
Penn State at 6-0, has had wins over Pitt and Iowa. Franklin’s team can make a statement in Saturday’s Nights game. The Nittany Lions have only played two FBS teams with a winning record this year, leaving us curious as to how good this team really is. It is important to point out that Penn State has only won both those matchups by seven points or less. They still have games on their schedule against Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State. Franklin’s team will have an opportunity to play their way into the top four, and an undefeated season.
Michigan holds a 14-8 advantage over Penn State and the Wolverines have won four out of the last five matchups. One of those was a dominant victory at the Big House with a final score of 42-7. When Michigan has the ball, their offense has scored at least 42 points in two out of its three games. A key to get that started is that offensive line upfront. Michigan has to win that battle on the line, to help quarterback Shea Patterson. For Penn State, new quarterback Sean Clifford is completing 64. 2 percent of passes for 1,560 yards and 13 touchdowns. His Mobility is an asset that Clifford will need to use.
Michigan at Penn State, will start this Saturday Night Oct. 19,2019. On ABC, 16th ranked Michigan vs. 7th ranked Penn State. Well we will just have to wait and see what happens.
