Phillip Rivers Will Sign a Deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Rivers and the Chargers are in full agreement that he is not going to return for the 2020 season. There has been speculation that Rivers moved his family down to Florida to retire. I believe that is not the case here.

I see Rivers signing a 1-2 year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and here’s why.

Tampa Bay is a quarterback away from being a playoff team. They have arguably the best wideout duo in the league with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin not to mention O.J Howard (sure he may have had a rough year BUT) who is only 25 years old.

It’s unclear what Tampa is going to do with Jameis Winston right now but Tampa could hit him with a franchise tag and sign Rivers to mentor him for a couple of years.

That seems to be in the best interest of Tampa Bay. Signing Rivers may not give you a franchise quarterback but it could help them get to the next level.

Head Coach Bruce Arians has made it clear that the Buccaneers need to resign their defensive free agents or their QB won’t matter. He also has made it clear that he doesn’t care if the team moves on from turnover-prone Jameis Winston.

It will be interesting to see what Tampa does this offseason but one thing that I know for sure is that Phillip Rivers will be a Buccaneer come the start of the 2020 NFL season.
