Just 7 episodes in and DC’s Stargirl has just been renewed for a second season. However, instead of showing on the DC universe app it looks like the show will be moved primarily to the CW network. This looks to be another nail in the coffin for an app that’s looking like it will be sucked up by HBO Max sooner rather then later. Under the model now, new episodes of Stargirl premiere on DC Universe on Mondays before airing on The CW on Tuesday nights. Variety reports that Stargirl’s ratings on Tuesday nights are consistent with other Arrowverse offerings, an encouraging sign, as this show is a great addition to the already popular lineup.
While Stargirl season 2 is really nice news, I have to wonder if the quality will suffer as it becomes just another piece of the puzzle for the already superhero heavy tv network. What’s more, many of the episodes that air on DC Universe are slightly longer than the ones that air on the CW, since the streaming service doesn’t have to take commercials into account with its run times.
As long as it doesn’t get watered down by too many episodes in a season this should all work out ok but then again who knows. I see this working as long as it stays in the 10-15 episode range. But at least the move gives the show more stability.
