Sunshine State Showdown- Florida Gators vs The University of Miami

Kicks off 2019 College football season!

Tonight Orlando, Florida hosts the kickoff game to the 2019 college football season, with an in state rivalry game as the Gators battle the U.

Florida comes into the opener with high expectations following an impressive finish to its 2018 season as well as its highest preseason ranking (#8) since Urban Meyers final season in Gainesville (2010). Lead by Junior QB Feleipe Franks many think this could be a big second season for Dan Mullens in the swamp.

Miami however opens in rebuild mode of sorts. With first year coach Manny Diaz, who by the way was with Mullens for two years at Mississippi St, and with QB Jarren Williams being the 13th different QB to open the season for the Canes in the last 20 seasons. The Gators come into the contest as a touchdown favorite while the Canes own momentum in the rivalry winning 7 of last 8 and 12 of 16 overall for whatever that’s worth.

This game has defensive battle written all over it with two stingy units to go with how young and inexperienced both teams O-Lines are. Florida has four new starters including both tackles while Miami’s two tackles are both making first career starts. It could be a fun night for D Lineman in this one so watch for that. If I was a betting man, lol, I think the U keeps it close enough to cover the 7. Side bet, there will be more turnovers than touchdowns in this game.

But I for one am happy that football that counts is back!!!
