This Saturday, August 31st, 2019 is the day that wrestling fans have been waiting for since WrestleMania Weekend. The three biggest wrestling promotions in the world right now, all have events on the same day. New Japan Pro Wrestling, All Elite Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment all have big shows and fans will have such a busy day trying to watch every single one of them. Let’s be honest, you don’t have to choose just one. Watch all of them and plan your day if you don’t have other things to do. First off, we have NJPW Royal Quest in London, England. Then over in Wales, WWE has NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff and to cap the night, AEW has All Out in Chicago, Illinois. And that is how we’re going to break down these shows. If you haven’t had a chance to read my preview of NJPW Royal Quest, it is available now, here on AllEverythingEntertainment.com.
Here are my predictions for this Saturday’s WWE NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff:
Travis Banks vs Noam Dar
The Scottish Supernova and The Kiwi Buzzsaw go one on one in what should be quite the entertaining contest. For week Noam Dar has been running his mouth while backing it up in the ring getting a lot of wins under his belt. As for Banks, he’s been on the downturn ever since losing his WWE United Kingdom Championship Match to Walter a number of weeks back. The question is will Banks regain his momentum or continue his decline? I believe that Noam Dar wins here.
Prediction: Noam Dar
Joe Coffey vs Dave Mastiff in a Last Man Standing Match
Two big meaty men who hate each other’s guts. They had a big brawl at the end of their match a few weeks back. So big in fact, that NXT UK General Manager Johnny Saint decided that the only way to have a decisive winner is for these two to beat the ever-loving hell out of each other to the point where one can’t answer a 10-count. This has match of the night written all over it. In the end, I believe Mastiff wins and goes into the UK Championship picture.
Prediction: Dave Mastiff
Toni Storm (c) vs Kay Lee Ray for the NXT UK Women’s Championship
The story between these two goes back quite a ways. Back to their starts on the independent circuit and competing from country to country. Storm went on to big things and became a megastar and Kay Lee Ray was just another wrestler. Storm was signed immediately after the 1ST Mae Young Classic and won the 2nd Mae Young Classic as well as winning the WWE UK Women’s Championship. Kay Lee Ray was not signed after the 1st Mae Young Classic, didn’t participate in the 2nd Mae Young Classic and wasn’t signed until a few months ago. Does Kay Lee Ray have what it takes to lead the NXT UK Women’s Division? Maybe. But not right now.
Prediction: Toni Storm
Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) (c) vs. Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster vs. Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) for NXT UK Tag Team Championship
Ever since the NXT UK Tag Team Championship came into existence, James Drake and Liverpool’s #1 Zack Gibson has fought all challengers. Now they have to contend with two teams. Gallus, headed up by Mark Coffey and Wolfgang and the team of Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster. If there’s anything both NXTs are known for, it’s good tag team wrestling. This should be a fun match, but I just don’t see the Grizzled Young Veterans losing the titles right now.
Prediction: Grizzled Young Veterans
Walter (c) vs Tyler Bate for the WWE United Kingdom Championship
Tyler Bate was the first UK Champion in WWE History then with Trent Seven, won the NXT Tag Team Championship here in the United States. Walter has been a force outside of The United States for years and now, he’s in NXT UK and he ended the almost 2-year reign of Pete Dunne as UK Champion. He also has acquired backup in the form of Marcel Barthel, Fabian Aichner and former member of SANITY, Alexander Wolfe. Together they are known as Imperium. Imperium took out Bate for a while, sent Dunne back to NXT in the States and took out Seven in total. Now Bate wants revenge and he wants his second reign as UK Champion. It’s not going to happen. Honestly, I don’t see anyone in NXT right now…but there may be one man…more on that in a moment.
So this past week after losing his King of The Ring match, Cesaro said he wanted a fresh start and that he was going to make a surprise appearance at TakeOver Cardiff this weekend. Think of the possibilities if you have Cesaro in NXT UK. He and Kassius Ohno can reunite and bring back their Kings of Wrestling tag team, go after the NXT UK Tag Team Championship.
Or he can go after the big prize and fight Walter or Bate. Most likely it would be Cesaro vs Walter down the line. What a money match that would be. I personally think Cesaro could flourish in NXT UK as he hasn’t on the main WWE roster besides multiple tag team championship reigns and a few minor title reigns a number of years back.
Regardless, NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff should be just as excellent as any other TakeOver and it is the perfect way to continue Super Wrestling Saturday and you can be sure that All Everything Entertainment will be covering all the action.
