Super Wrestling Saturday: WWE NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff Review

August 31st, 2019 was such an amazing day of professional wrestling. All Elite Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling as well as World Wrestling Entertainment all had events. NJPW had a really good show Royal Quest to lead off the day, then WWE’s NXT UK division took over Wales at NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff and then AEW ended the night with their All Out show.

Here we will discuss NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff. If you haven’t had the chance to read the review for NJPW Royal Quest, it is available now here at Stay tuned as well for the AEW All Out Review coming this week but for now, let’s go over all the craziness from NXT UK TakeOver Cardiff.

Travis Banks vs Noam Dar

As talented as these two are…I really didn’t get into this match. They are great and all, but this was a match that didn’t need to be on TakeOver Cardiff. This could have easily been on a weekly NXT UK episode. It had some exciting bits, but it wasn’t worthy of being on this special show.

Prediction: Noam Dar

Winner: Noam Dar

Special Attraction- Cesaro vs Ilja Draganov

Last week Cesaro said that he was coming to TakeOver Cardiff for a hand-on approach in NXT UK. He came to pick a fight and that fight was instantly accepted by the Russian Savage, Ilja Draganov. This was a really good match to put Cesaro over and Draganov over as well. Yes, 90% of the time Cesaro was in control but he proved he can hang with men who have been established for years. Cesaro won and raised Draganov’s hand after the match and clapping showing his appreciation for NXT. Now, this could mean many things…if Cesaro is on RAW or Smackdown this week, then this wasn’t a permanent move but if he isn’t, it could mean a permanent stay for Cesaro down in NXT UK and for NXT UK and for Cesaro, this would be a very good thing. Cesaro could be the next big thing. Cesaro vs Walter is a prime-time money-making match. I cannot wait to see who wins that match if it ever happens.

Winner: Cesaro

Joe Coffey vs Dave Mastiff in a Last Man Standing Match

These two had quite the hard-hitting Last Man Standing Match. They pulled out all the stops including cricket bats, tables and chairs. The ending though has divided the fans. Some believe when Joe Coffey kicked the production trunk that Mastiff was trying to stabilize himself on, causing Mastiff to fall and gave the win, it was a weak ending. But honestly, I thought it wasn’t a bad ending. The match is total was really good.

Prediction: Dave Mastiff

Winner: Joe Coffey

Toni Storm (c) vs Kay Lee Ray for the WWE UK Women’s Championship

In one of the big shocks of the night, Kay Lee Ray took Toni Storm to the limit to win the NXT UK Women’s Championship. The match was nothing spectacular. It was okay, to be honest.

Prediction: Toni Storm

Winner: Kay Lee Ray

Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) (c) vs. Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster vs. Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) for NXT UK Tag Team Championship

In 22 years of watching wrestling, this match was one of the most exciting and thrilling tag team matches I have ever seen. All six of these men put their all into this match. In the end, we have new tag team champions in Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews. I would love to see these three teams face off again someday.

Prediction: Grizzled Young Veterans

Winner: Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster

Walter (c) vs Tyler Bate for the WWE United Kingdom Championship

Without question, one of the Top 3 matches of the day and one of the best I’ve ever seen. Walter showed why he is the WWE UK Champion, using his strength and dominance while the crowd severely jeered him. Tyler Bate showed why he was the very first WWE UK Champion. He showed the heart of a warrior. He didn’t let Walter get the best of him and he hung in there with Walter the best he could until he couldn’t take anymore. Bate is too good in the ring to never be UK Champion again but this was a war that I highly recommend you watch again.

Prediction: Walter

Winner: Walter

This was the best NXT UK TakeOver so far and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Stay tuned for more NXT UK coverage here on All Everything Entertainment.
