After talks of possible super fight between Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones looming, it seems Adesanya’s team may prefer to have that fight with Stipe Miocic. While steam has picked up between Jones and Izzy, Adesanya’s head trainer Eugene Bareman said he and his team, would rather award the opportunity to a stand-up guy like UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
This is a bold statement from Adesanya’s team. Bareman said this when he was asked if there was interest in a fight between Adesanya and Jones. Bareman said I believe me and Israel are in a certain place, where we don’t have to give a person of Jon’s nature the opportunity that Israel can bestow on him. We would much, rather have a super fight against Miocic. He’s a nice guy he said when talking about Miocic. Let’s do it against him, and let’s not give Jones that opportunity. That’s just how my team operates.
In a separate interview with Submission Radio, a week earlier, Bareman said he feels Jones and team Jackson-Wink are not deserving of a shot due to moral and ethical issues. They feel Stipe Miocic is the biggest possible fight for Israel Adesanya.
Things have taken a turn, or so it seems. For the Jones and Adesanya fight. For now, at least it seems that you can add Miocic to that mix.
Adesanya is scheduled to defend his newly earned championship against Paulo Costa in early 2020.
