Impact Wrestling (my favorite) did something very shocking last week. They released their current (former) World Champion Tessa Blanchard. Blanchard’s release comes off rumors that she was uninterested in dropping the world title on July 18th (my birthday) at the Slammiversary PPV. There were also some other factors that went into this decision but ultimately Impact cut its losses and released Blanchard thus making her the hottest free agent on the planet!!
Now you may be asking why would either company want to invest millions of dollars into someone with a reported bad attitude and who was just fired while being World Champ. And while that’s a fair question I just want to remind you all she is 24 years old!!! That’s right 24!!! She still has her whole career ahead of her. She loves professional wrestling and is one of the best in the world to do it!
So the question now is…where she will go!?
It will certainly be interesting to see where she ends up but while we wait on her decision let’s take a look at what would be her best fit.
AEW provides Blanchard the opportunity to be an instant attraction. However, the women’s roster in AEW is weaker than the 0-16 Lions. A star of Tessa’s caliber serves as an instant upgrade over what they have on the roster now but that also would hurt Tessa’s star power. It would be expected that she can go into AEW and be the best thing they have because they don’t have much. So this makes sense for AEW to push hard for Tessa’s services but she should explore her options in….
The NXT women’s division is the best women’s division in professional wrestling. Not only do they put on great matches but they have the depth in their roster for all of their women to put on great matches. The division features stars are from the Mae Young Classic that Tessa also worked. Matches with IO Shirai, Tegan Nox, Rhea Ripley, Mia Yim, Candice Larae, and Dakota Kai all sound amazing. So if you want to really put it to AEW on Wednesday Nights put Tessa on NXT and let her shine.
However, with all of that being said I think the best place for Tessa to go would be…….
Monday Night Raw
Raw has been falling apart for months now and since Paul E was demoted we’ve been stuck seeing freaking Ninjas on Raw and that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is the women’s division and the lack of credible stars it has. Raw was all in on Becky Lynch and failed to build anyone up behind her in case she were to have to miss time for I don’t know lets say she got pregnant (oh wait). Now Asuka is a more than a suitable champion and her run is way over due but she could do so much more. The problem is the roster lacks depth with Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch both sidelined. Raw now has put Sasha Banks (Smackdown) in a match with Asuka which takes away from the entire women’s division on Raw.
Insert Tessa Blanchard into the mix and have her feud with the likes of Shayna Baszler or Bianca Belair and now you have two workers that can elevate each other and now you can build either as a legitimate threat to Asuka.
We could get some classics Tessa V. Baszler, Tessa V. Natayla, Tessa V. Asuka, and Tessa V. Belair. Tessa Blanchard could be that missing piece that the Raw women’s division really needs to get things going in the right direction.
And of course the match of all matches…
Tessa V. Charlotte
This must happen!
