The AEE Fantasy Start/Sit List – DEF edition – Week 12
The AEE Fantasy Start/Sit List – DEF edition – Week 12
The Fantasy Football 2019 NFL regular season. As we close out the regular season, let’s take a look at the best starts and sits heading into Week 12 of your fantasy football matchups.
Start of the Week: Atlanta Falcons vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It took half of the season, but the Atlanta Falcons have found themselves on defense. The Dirty Birds have held their last two divisional opponents to just 12 points and they’ve found a pass rush with 11 sacks in the last two games. Those 11 sacks are 5 more than the Falcons had on the season through 8 weeks of play. Add to all of this that Jameis Winston has been a literal turnover machine and that makes the Falcons a nice streaming defense to target this week.
Start – New Orleans Saints vs Carolina Panthers: The way Kyle Allen looked last week, the Saints defense will be a popular streaming option this week. Allen has actually struggled with turnovers all season long, but it was primarily lost fumbles before last week when he threw 4 interceptions. The Panthers have been giving up a lot of sacks lately, so this could also be a get right game for a sagging Saints pass rush.
Start – Detroit Lions @ Washington Redskins: By the eye test, I don’t know that there’s been a worse quarterback than Dwayne Haskins this year. Perhaps it’s the promise of his first-round draft capital that makes him more disappointing or hard to watch than even a Ryan Finley type, but Haskins has been atrocious this year. It’s funny to think how angry Giants fans were that they got Daniel Jones instead of Dwayne Haskins, but the world is singing a different tune now and it’s not one that I want to dance to where Haskins is concerned.
Start – Tennessee Titans vs Jacksonville Jaguars: In the second AFC South Showdown of the week, the Tennessee Titans will be looking to save their playoff hopes against the rival Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans defense hasn’t always been consistent this year, but they’re above average and are ranked 10th overall in fantasy scoring this year. I like the Titans defense in a must-win home matchup as a streaming option if you missed on some of the easier matchups.
Start – New England Patriots vs Dallas Cowboys: The Patriots defense is still far and away the best fantasy defense on the season. They have 5 more interceptions on the season than the next closest team with 19 (Pittsburgh has 14) and they’ve shut down every player they’ve faced that’s not named Lamar Jackson. Even with the Cowboys projected to be at full strength, I’m willing to play the Patriots in a battle of who is truly “America’s Team”.
Sit of the Week: Chicago Bears vs New York Giants
Even though the Chicago Bears are ranked 9th in fantasy scoring this year, I’m not encouraged at all by what I’ve seen from this team. Under Vic Fangio, this defense was a stalwart crew of ferocious defenders. Under Chuck Pagano, they’re playing like they’ve had their claws clipped. On top of that, the offensive struggles are piling on this defense and not allowing them to play to their potential. With the offensive crew the Giants have, I’ll be looking elsewhere for a streaming option rather than starting the Bears.
Sit – Seattle Seahawks @ Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles have arguably the worst receiving corps in the entire NFL, as the entire Eagles receiving squad is currently being outpaced by Michael Thomas for yards and receptions. With that said, the Eagles still have an excellent ground game and two solid tight ends to lean on, making this a potential trap game for fantasy owners trying to get cute and stream against the Eagles.
Sit – Cincinnati Bengals vs Pittsburgh Steelers: I think this might be a spiteful entry more than anything because I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan who’s had a love/hate relationship with the team since they passed on Lamar Jackson in favor of Terrell Edmunds. Edmunds isn’t necessarily a bad player, but he’s not good enough to stop the Steelers from trading a first-round draft pick away for Minkah Fitzpatrick. Anyways, Mason Rudolph sucks and they’re at home so if you’re feeling risky, start the Bengals defense.
Sit – Cleveland Browns vs Miami Dolphins: The Miami Dolphins were the favorite streaming target of all fantasy owners at the beginning of the season and for good reason. However, over the last 3 games, the Dolphins have been a much more respectable team and have won 2 games and scored 20 points against a tough Buffalo defense. They still turn the ball over, so there’s some upside, but it’ll be interesting to see how the Browns respond after losing their best defensive player and seeing how they respond doesn’t inspire confidence to put them in my lineup this week.
Sit – Baltimore Ravens @ Los Angeles Rams: Since acquiring Marcus Peters from the team they’ll be facing on Monday Night Football, the Ravens have been one of the top fantasy defenses. The Rams offense has been a shell of itself, but they leaned on star running back, Todd Gurley, for the first time all season and played well during last week’s game. Jared Goff is regressing, but should have a full complement of weapons available to him on Sunday, making me somewhat nervous for the Ravens defense this week. However, unless you have an excellent streamer like the Lions on deck, you’ll probably be sticking with the Ravens anyways.
