Usually, when a performer wins a championship he’s reached a peak in his career. However, that is doubled down on when a performer wins two championships! Today we take a look at the top 10 dual champions in wrestling history outside of the WWE.
#10) Bill Goldberg (WCW Heavyweight & United States Champion)
Bill Goldberg in his prime was the biggest draw the WCW had ever seen. Once he went 173-0 on his way to winning the United States Heavyweight Championship and WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Goldberg beat Hollywood Hogan clean on an edition of Monday Nitro and the crowd went crazy!
#9 Kurt Angle (IWPG Heavyweight & TNA Heavyweight Champion)
After leaving the WWE in 2008 Angle would appear in TNA where he would go on to have some of the greatest matches of his career. He won the TNA World Title on multiple occasions and TNA would allow him to work for NJPW where he would be the first man in history to win the TNA & IWPG World Titles at the same time.
#8 Jay Lethal (ROH World & Television Champion)
Jay Lethal is an amazing wrestler and is probably the greatest independent star to never appear in the WWE. Lethal is having an amazing run in Ring of Honor capturing and holding the ROH World Television Champion and ROH World Heavyweight Champion at the same time.
#7 Bret Hart (WCW World & Tag Team Champion)
As I was watching the Dark Side of the Ring it really saddened me because it ruined Hart’s face value. He just didn’t care anymore and was just collecting a paycheck in WCW. Toward the end of his run he did manage to capture the World Title and hold the Tag Team Titles with Goldberg.
#6 Lance Storm (WCW Cruiserweight, Hardcore, and United States Champion)
Honestly, this is my personal favorite. Storm perfected the anti-American heel role en route to winning and holding all of these championships. He even renamed them after Canada.
#5 Ultimo Dragon (J-Crown)
I’m going to let everyone do their research with this one but Dragon could actually be at the top of the list. He held titles in WCW, WWF, NWA, and NJPW. He is freaking insane and was probably was wrestling 2 or 3 times a day.
#4 Samoa Joe (TNA X-Division & Tag Team Champion)
Okay, fun fact: Samoa Joe is the only man in TNA history to challenge for the Tag Team Titles by himself and win them.
#3 Jon Moxley ( AEW World & IWPG United States Champion)
Jon Moxley has enjoyed his post WWE run and has made a huge impact in NJPW by winning the United States title in his first night there. Moxley also defeated Chris Jericho to become AEW World Champion while still being the current NJPW United States Champion.
#2 Tetsuya Naito (IWPG Intercontinental & World Champion)
I didn’t know what I was missing until I saw Tetsuya Naito carry his own in a program with Chris Jericho. Naito would defeat Jericho to win the IC title and just recently won a championship unification match against Kazuchika Okada (the best wrestler in the world) at Wrestle Kingdom to become the IWPG World Champion.
#1 Bobby Lashley ( TNA World, X-Division, King of the Mountain Champion)
Walking Armageddon is my favorite Lashley gimmick. He enjoyed his dominant booking en route to winning every singles title TNA had to offer. He then killed the X-Division and King of the Mountain Championship it was great. “Your title vs. MY title.”
Is there anyone else that we missed on our list of dual champions in wrestling?
