UFC Fight Night : Cowboy vs Gaethje
Tonight, Saturday, September 14th, the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada will play host to UFC Fight Night.
The main event is one that has all the makings of an action-packed, fan-friendly classic. This fight for the fans headliner will see Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone battle Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje in a fight that’s doubtful to need the judge’s scorecards.
In fact, it’s been 5 years since a Gaethje fight has gone the distance. While Cowboy doesn’t trust the judges either, keeping 12 of his last 15 fights out of their hands. With their no judges needed style, Cerrone and Gaethje also know how to take home bonus money.
The always ready to go, Cowboy, has had 32 fights in UFC, 18 of them earned Cerrone a post-fight bonus. While Gaethje, much newer to the UFC has impressively brought home 6 bonuses in just 5 octagon appearances. For those who don’t know and who might be confused by that math. You can earn more than one bonus for a fight in different categories.
If that wasn’t enough to make you wanna watch this battle. Know it could go a long way in deciding who brings “The Notorious” Connor McGregor back to the octagon. That’s right, it’s said that it’s possible for the winner of this sure-fire barn burner to welcome “Mystic Mac” back to UFC. Now many believe that major payday will go to the winner of the recently scheduled fight between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal.
However, if the Cerrone-Gaethje winner is more impressive than the Diaz-Masvidal winner, there’s no telling what McGregor will want. And we all know the UFC gives Conor what he wants, cause money talks and he’s their cash cow. Diving into some more significant notes from this Fight Night main event.
This will be Donald Cerrone’s 33rd fight in UFC tying Jim Miller’s record. While Justin Gaethje joins only the great Anderson “the Spider” Silva as fighters to be in the Main Event in 5 of his first 6 UFC battles. Maybe to no surprise with his style and the frequency of which he fights.
Cowboy has absorbed the most significant strikes in UFC history (1,494). While Gaethje lands a UFC record 8.5 significant strikes per minute. Not good stats for the fan-favorite, Cowboy. Although those of us who have long followed the sport learned a long time ago, that you never count Cerrone out. He’s a tough s.o.b. as is Gaethje, should be an exciting, great match up that I for one can’t wait to see.
