MLB Trade Deadline- National Day of Relief
A somewhat slow day for the trade deadline, saw the Washington Nationals acquire bullpen depth. The Nationals acquired Roenis Elias from Seattle, for minor leaguers Elvis Alvarado and Taylor Guilbeau. The book on Elias is that left handers smash him. The 31 year old has a 8.6 k per 9 with a 3.3 bb per 9. Despite a 4.40 era. Although he did save 14 of 16 with the M’s. Guilbeau was the Nats 15th best prospect. A lefty reliever with mid 90’s stuff. Ho hum right?
They also picked up Daniel Hudson from the Jay’s for minor league righty Kyle Johnston. Hudson has a 3 era in 48 innings this year, but some question whether he can sustain it. His swing and miss percentage dropped to 9.9 percent. As well as handing out over 4 free passes per 9. With the Nats desperate for bullpen help, it’s worth taking a flier on these relievers. Doolittle and Sipp do not inspire anyone out the Nats pen.
In a lower tier deal, they added Hunter Strickland from Seattle for lefty Aaron Fletcher. Strickland has barely pitched but they’re banking on his success from his 2014 to 2018 stint with San Francisco.
