Week 9 predictions & Preview
San Francisco 49ers 28, Arizona Cardinals 25
As predicted we got a fun little duel out in the desert. This game was really everything we needed to see from both teams. We’ll start with the losing team. The Cardinals took the recently traded for Kenyan Drake and they took it right to the Niners defense. Drake was spectacular in his first game as a Cardinal, getting 15 touches going for over 115 yards and scoring a beautiful touchdown on the opening drive. Drake, with a healthy David Johnson, is going to give defensive coordinators nightmares. Kyler Murray showed me a lot in this game making plays with his legs but I think my biggest surprise was just how well he throws the football. He has a lot of velocity and accuracy; now some throws did get away from him and some of his receivers were dropping passes but there is a lot to look forward too if you’re a Cardinals fan.
And now the victors, this was everything we needed to see with the Niners. All season long they’ve relied on their defense and a ground attack to help with their winning streak. Tonight it was all about QB Jimmy Garoppolo connecting with 9 different targets on his way to 317 Yards and 4 TDs (Career High). George Kittle playing through an injury would end up catching 6 passes for 79 yards and the first Niner touchdown on the night. Recently acquired Emmanuel Sanders caught 7 passes for 112 yards and a score. So this Niner team is legit contenders this season and its time they get the respect they deserve.
Sundays Big Games
Vikings V. Chiefs
I really think this is probably the best game in the 1 O’clock window we’ll get to see if Kirk Cousins (NFL Offensive Player of the Month) can keep this Vikings team red hot. The last time we saw these Vikings (6-2) was last Thursday on TNF, so they’ve had so time to rest and prepare. The last time we saw this Vikings team, they didn’t play so well against a bad Redskins team. Now I know they were banged up but this league doesn’t feel sorry for anyone and it’s going to take a lot more than 19 points to beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City (5-3) on the other hand desperately needs a win coming off a tough loss last Sunday Night to the Packers in a game that could have gone either way. Matt Moore is not a guy anyone needs to overlook as he proved last week he’s still got it. The Chiefs managed to score 26 points last Sunday and I think they will score more this week.
Score Prediction: Vikings 35 Chiefs 42
Panthers V. Titans
Going to cover this one here for a couple of reasons. One is, believe it or not, is 1 of only 3 games that features 2 teams with a .500 record or better. Secondly, I will be in attendance for this game down in Charlotte. Now the Panthers (4-3) just got the life beaten out of them last week and yes Kyle Allen had his worst game as a Pro. But this team still has possible league MVP in CMC and this team is #1 in the NFL in sacks (34). That’s important here because my Titans (4-4) have given up the most sacks of any team in the NFL (36) and the past 2 wins for the Titans have not been solely at the hands of Ryan Tannehill. The Titans have been fortunate enough to be bailed out by some poor officiating. The Titans offense remains a cluster and the offensive line is just awful. Arthur Smith continues to run the same playbook off Madden 96 and opposing teams continue to stuff Derrick Henry. I do like the Titans defense versus Kyle Allen this week, so for all my fantasy owners start the Titans defense this Sunday. I expect this game to be closer than what others might predict.
Score Panthers 23 Titans 24
Sneaky Good game of the Week
Chargers V. Packers
Sneaky good game of the week because this is one of the rare Icon vs Icon match-ups between two of the very best to do it all time, Phillip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers. Now the Packers are red hot this year and they look like an early Super Bowl favorite sitting a 7-1 at the midway mark. They’ve won games in all different ways this year. Mike Pettine’s defense is playing amazing right now and all the money and draft capital spent is paying off with returns this season. Mr. Rodgers has a firm grasp on his neighborhood and at this point the, MVP award is Aaron Rodgers’ to lose. The Chargers (3-5) made a big change following last week’s win over the Bears by firing Ken Whisenhunt (which we have a trendy article out on his possible future, everyone should check out if you haven’t yet). QB Coach Shane Steichen will take over calling plays with HC Anthony Lynn being involved with installing the game plan, so expect to see the Chargers run the ball more. Now on paper, hands down the better team is the Chargers they are deep at just about every single position and Green Bay on the other hand has a Hall of Fame QB throwing passes to guys he met in the grocery store but they are playing hard and Mr. Rodgers is making them look like superstars.
Score Prediction: Packers 28 Chargers 31
Key AFC Match-Up of the Week
Patriots V. Ravens
I think at this point there is no question about who will be representing the AFC in the Super Bowl. The Patriots (8-0) are not only my favorites to go to the Super Bowl, but I believe they will repeat an undefeated season. Unlike any of their other Super Bowl years, the Patriots are playing extremely well on defense and special teams. The weakest link on this team right now is the Tom Brady lead offense, everyone let that sink in for a minute………….
On to the opposition, the Ravens (5-2) have impressed me with their start but there is something about the way Lamar Jackson is playing the QB position that turns me away from taking this team as a legitimate threat. No team other than the Browns have tried to contain Lamar Jackson. This Patriots defense will as they are going to stack the box and spy Lamar all game and dare him to beat them with his arm. That’s not a favorable match-up with the McCourty brothers, Stephon Gilmore, Patrick Chung in that secondary. The Patriots will use this game to send a message to the entire NFL. I said it earlier this week and I stand by it today “The people that believe the Ravens will beat the Patriots are the same people that got high off of sniffing fingernail polish remover”
