WWE NXT Live On USA 9/18 Review

The Black and Yellow Brand has made the move to live broadcasts and with this move, people who aren’t able to watch NXT every week or aren’t familiar with NXT in general, this is the perfect way for them to get their NXT fix and allows the stars of NXT to get more national exposure.

And exposure is something they’ll definitely get as NXT is now two hours every week. The first hour will be on the USA Network and the second on the WWE Network. That is a brilliant business scheme. You tease the viewers on USA and encourage them to go on the WWE Network and subscribe to see the rest of the show.

Complete with new graphics and a modified set, NXT is going to change everything. Let’s go over what happened on the first LIVE episode of NXT:

Hour One:

Fatal Four Way #1 Contender’s Match For A Shot At The NXT Women’s Championship

Say what you will about the main WWE women’s roster with the likes of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, and Bayley…they have great women’s wrestlers.

But NXT has more talented women on their roster in my opinion and that was showcased here as four of NXT’s brightest stars in The Blasian Baddie Mia Yim, The EST of NXT Bianca Belair, The Genius of The Sky Io Shirai and Candice Wrestling, Candice LeRae. These four women all put on a show. High spots, power spots, athleticism on supreme display.

In a welcome and unexpected turn of events, Candice LeRae pinned Mia Yim with a moonsault off the second rope to become the #1 contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. She has never gotten a shot at the title, now she does.

As she celebrated, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler and her Four Horsewomen cohorts Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir came out to taunt Candice. Baszler and LeRae stared at one another to end the segment.

Sean Maluta vs Cameron Grimes

The former Trevor Lee and the runner up in the NXT Breakout Tournament has been on a roll over the last few weeks getting win after win. And he decimated Sean Maluta in a match that ended literally in less than a minute by using a reverse curb stomp and getting the pinfall. Grimes may not have won the NXT Breakout Tournament but no doubt he is going to be a star moving forward.

Velveteen Dream vs Roderick Strong for the NXT North American Championship

A prophecy was deemed by NXT Champion Adam Cole. That every member of The Undisputed Era would be dripping in championship gold by the end of 2019. It started with Cole winning the NXT Championship from Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver XXV. Then Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish won the NXT Tag Team Championship for a second time together but officially it is the third time The Undisputed Era have held the NXT Tag Team Titles. The last reign was with Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong replacing the injured Bobby Fish. Speaking of Roderick Strong, it was all down to him to fulfill the prophecy. He had to win the NXT North American Championship from the Velveteen Dream to do just that…and he did just that.

With interference from the rest of the UE, Roderick Strong hit the End of Heartache backbreaker to become the NEW NXT North American Champion.

Hour Two:

Pete Dunne vs Arturo Ruas

The Brazilian martial artist Arturo Ruas has had a few matches on NXT, but he has never had to face someone like The Bruiserweight Pete Dunne. The former WWE United Kingdom Champion brought some of his best stuff to this match. Dunne won by submission breaking down the hands of Ruas and snapping his fingers for the win. Hopefully, this leads to a bigger opportunity for Dunne down the line.

Xia Li vs Aliyah

More women’s action on NXT, this time Chinese sensation Xia Li took on one-half of the “Mean Girls Of NXT” Aliyah, in what was a decent match. Xia Li is underrated in the ring especially when she competed in the Mae Young Classic. It won’t be too long before Xia Li gets her chance to be in the big dance for the NXT Women’s Championship.

All Hail Imperium

Denzel Dejournette, a random talent who no one has heard of was in the ring getting ready to compete when all of a sudden, NXT UK invaded NXT US. Former NXT competitors Fabian Aichner, Marcel Barthel and Alexander Wolfe surrounded the ring and attacked Dejournette. Then the music of Imperium and the music of the WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER hit, and the crowd went crazy. The group was then interrupted by The Time Splitter Kushida, who got into the ring with those four men and took them all down momentarily. Then Kushida challenged WALTER to a match. Yeah, not smart but I’m definitely looking forward to that match.

Oney Lorcan vs Lio Rush

Yeah, you heard me right…a 205 Live match on NXT. And yes, you heard me right, the controversial high flyer Lio Rush has returned to NXT and WWE after months of not being around after being Bobby Lashley’s hype man. The winner of this match basically would be the next challenger for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Say what you will about Rush, he is still a great talent and he showed that against the crazed brawler Oney Lorcan. Rush won with the frog splash to become the #1 contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

Matt Riddle vs Killian Dain in a Street Fight

These two men have tried to maim one another, beat the other one into a coma and this was just another example of that. After fighting at NXT TakeOver New York in an impromptu brawl, these two had the chance to beat the life out of one another in a street fight. The fight spilled to the backstage area where WALTER got involved and attacked Matt Riddle. Imperium joined in and then the Forgotten Sons and other NXT stars got involved and it was NXT vs NXT UK. I’m very interested to see where this all goes. Hopefully Imperium versus The Undisputed Era for all the gold. That would be delicious.

It was announced soon afterward that next week, Dain and Riddle would have a rematch in another street fight but this time, the winner will be the #1 contender for Adam Cole’s NXT Championship.

We are just getting started here on All Everything Entertainment and you can count on AEE to bring you coverage of NXT as it goes LIVE every Wednesday on USA and the WWE Network.
